A lot of things have hampered me in collecting, mostly a lack of money to buy cards and I haven't been able to get to a few shows because of a lack of transportation, and a recent move, my cards are in boxes and I'm not able to get to them.

Anyway, through my Twitter page I found a couple of new sites, one is Cheap Card Collecting where they have a contest going on to win some cool cards, so head over there, and if you win a Brennan Boesch card, send it my way.

I hope to get back to doing some more collecting soon, I really need to get into those boxes and clean out some things.
John Sharphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12839504730875750409noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6993748441934483056.post-1568904620429928172011-03-06T12:36:00.000-08:002011-03-06T12:36:02.911-08:00Bill Freehan Baseball Cards Page 1 - Career Page Featuring Pictures, Cards, Autographs, Publications, Stats, Photos, History, and MemorabiliaBill Freehan Baseball Cards Page 1 - Career Page Featuring Pictures, Cards, Autographs, Publications, Stats, Photos, History, and MemorabiliaJohn Sharphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12839504730875750409noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6993748441934483056.post-18318030353432803462011-02-12T13:32:00.000-08:002011-02-12T13:32:59.501-08:00I'm moving, want some baseball cards?I'm moving this coming week, and this weekend I'm going through everything in my house.

I am going to keep my Detroit Tigers cards, and a few others...I found a 2010 A&G RC of Buster Posey, but then I'm going to separate everything else by team.

If you'd like to trade for your favorite team, just leave me a comment and when I've moved I'll start to go down the list. 1st come, etc.

One thing, if you have any Brennan Boech cards, or cards of my favorite player, Bill Freehan, you will have special consideration.

I have so many cards that I've just kept in storage boxes, and it's time to get them to someone else now.

Let's do some trades, what do you say.

Thanks, John
John Sharphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12839504730875750409noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6993748441934483056.post-63353930522833883622011-01-31T13:54:00.000-08:002011-01-31T13:54:24.093-08:00My first 2011 Topps packs
Today I was @ Walmart, and their they were, 2011 Topps Series 1 Baseball.

At 1st I saw the regular packs, then the blisters, I think that's what they're called, and then I saw the boxes.

$19.98, 10 packs, a guaranteed Patch Card, it was Manny Ramirez of the ChiSox, with the cool old school 1970's ChiSox logo, and one 2011 Diamond Giveaway redemption card.

81 cards in all in the special box, and the cards are really nice looking.

The 2 Detroit Tigers cards I got were a Justin Verlander Topps Town(#TT-38), and a Miguel Cabrera 2010 A.L. Home Run Leaders Card(#T60-50).

The best card of the pack so far is #CMGR-8, a Cy Young 1911 T205 reprint card.

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">I saw this very cool card on my Facebook page, from Topps Tribute Baseball...this will be a very challenging collection to obtain.
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">It's 5 cards with 2 rookies from 2010 on each card, including the Detroit Tigers Austin Jackson on the bottom of card #3.
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">When put together, the 5 cards will spell out "2010 Rookies."
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">OK, so I'll go ahead and say it. If anyone comes across the Jackson card, let's talk.
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

John Sharphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12839504730875750409noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6993748441934483056.post-63322071669172037882010-11-04T12:55:00.000-07:002010-11-04T12:56:47.247-07:00Goodbye Captain Hook<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">It took me a while to get over it.

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">OK, I really never got over it, but I let it go.
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">When Tigers manager Sparky Anderson took the field for the first time I was not happy, not at all.

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Now, I was glad he was the Tigers skipper, heck, it was fantastic.
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">What I didn't like was his uniform.

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">I was simply upset, and in fact, I might have started to cry.

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Sparky Anderson was wearing #11...wait, what. no, it couldn't be, #11?
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Hey, that's Bill Freehan's number I cried out...how dare the Tigers disgrace my boyhood hero's number like that...#11 belonged to the best catcher the Tigers ever had, not a guy in his first game.
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">OK, I know that was a minor flaw in my character, but hey, I had been personally hurt, so I thought, by the Tigers injustice towards my hero.
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Sparky Anderson passed away today, and to say I was sad would be a tremendous disservice to one of the greatest baseball men ever.
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Sparky was a true baseball man, a man who loved the game more and more every single day.
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">The Tigers should honor Sparky in some way, and I think that way should be to retire #11, do it next year, Freehan turns 69 this month, and honor both those great men at Comerica Park.
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">#11 was a special number, and I think the Tigers have been slow in doing things like this.
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Sparky is in the Hall of Fame, and the Tigers need to do the right thing.
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">May Sparky rest in peace.John Sharphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12839504730875750409noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6993748441934483056.post-85639756939769223752010-11-02T10:10:00.000-07:002010-11-02T10:10:59.686-07:00Topps 60th<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">I clicked on a link today to pick The 60 greatest Topps Cards ever

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Wow, I though, how cool will this be, so I went to the site, and started scrolling through some of the most famous cards in Topps history.
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Topps has what they consider the 100 greatest cards they've produced, and are asking collectors to pick the top 60 of All-Time to help them promote their 60th Anniversary next year.
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Now, it's a great idea, and I voted for my Top 10 cards, but I was not happy about all the selections to choose from.
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">To start,their is not one, not one, card from any Detroit Tiger player, not one.
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Now, I didn;t expect the '63 Bill Freehan RC, or a '91 Cecil Fielder, but...
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">...I thought for sure that the 1954 Al Kaline RC would be there for me to select, or the 1978 RC that has Alan Trammell and Paul Molitor on the same card, but no.
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">There are, however...
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">16 different Mickey Mantle cards, and 24 different Yankee cards total.
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">13 different Brookyln Dodger cards
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Topps is to be congratulated on a great promotion, but the cards selection is way to slanted to the Yankees and Dodgers.
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">So, I voted for 10 of the 100 cards featured, including the '52 Mantle, which has to be in anyone's top 1o, and for the '85 McGwire USA Card, just to name a couple.
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">As I mentioned before,I would have like the guys at Topps to have a much better selection of cards, there's just way to many Mantle cards.
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Here's easily the worst choice that Topps made...

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">The Wolverines, my favorite college football team since 1976 begin the season today @ 3:30 vs. the Connecticut Huskies, hoping to get back to the winning tradition of Michigan Football.
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Michigan has also been a great baseball program over the years, and so I thought I'd give a shout-out to the Wolverine baseball players in the big leagues.
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">There are four Wolverines in MLB this year, including Jake Scott of the Baltimore Orioles, Chris Getz of the KC Royals, J.J. Putz of the Chicago White Sox, and ex-Wolverine QB Clayton Richard of the San Diego Padres.
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Richard is having a fine season this year with the Padres, compiling a 12-6 record this year, with a 3.50 ERA so far in 2010.
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">This card is Richards 2005 Bowman RC.
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Clayton was a 8th round draft pick by the ChiSox in 2005. He has a career record of 23-16, with a ERA of 4.21.
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">So, here's to the Wolverines in pro baseball, and here's to the Meeeechigan Men running through the tunnel at 'The Big House" today...Go Blue!
John Sharphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12839504730875750409noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6993748441934483056.post-62591276350189924202010-08-21T12:14:00.000-07:002010-08-21T12:14:47.439-07:00The Bill Freehan Bobble head<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Bill Freehan played catcher for the Detroit Tigers from 1963-1976.
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">To this day he is my favorite ball player of All-Time.
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Below is a link to an article about a giveaway at a Great Lakes Loons game this past July 21st.
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">I would love to find this Bill Freehan Bobble Head for my collection. If anyone knows where I may obtain one, I would greatly appreciate it.
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Thanks to Steve for helping me complete my first trade of baseball cards through my blog.
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">I am relatively new at my blog, and it was great to trade with Steve.

Imagine, if you will, a Tigers fan and a ChiSox fan actually agreeing on something..hahahaha!
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">I received a great 1969 Bill Freehan Topps All-Star card...beautiful...but that wasn't the trade card...he sent me a nice Bill Freehan Upper Deck Jersey Card...and it's terrific.
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">I won't spoil what Steve got in return, I'll leave that for him.
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Meanwhile, with my first trade under my belt, I look forward to doing some more swapping in the future.
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">In today's first post I discussed my disappointment in Brennan not being at least on the MLB Final Vote, and that seems to be the one prevailing theme.
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">On today's broadcast of the Tigers 12-9 win over the Baltimore Orioles, both play by play man Mario Impemba, and color man Rod Allen were both astonished that Brennan wasn't on the Final Vote.
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Here's the links I've found so far on the snub issue, starting with this one by Jason Stark, whom I consider one of the best baseball writers in the business, from espn.com...Jason Stark on MLB All-Star snubs
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Both Brennan and Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander took not making the team like professionals in this post by Michael Rosenberg of the Detroit Free Press...Boesch, Verlander talk about not making the All-Star Game
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">There's also this piece by Thomas Franz of the Bleacher report...Tigers All-Stars 2010,
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">I hope that Brennan, who's from the L.A. area, gets there somehow, maybe in the HR Derby. I voted 25 times for Brennan as a write-in for the event.
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">One more reminder to vote for Brennan as the MLB Clutch Performer for June, here's the link...Vote for Brennan
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">If you come upon a great article on Brennan, or the Tigers, please feel free to let me know.
John Sharphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12839504730875750409noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6993748441934483056.post-19298580239654853402010-06-25T11:21:00.000-07:002010-06-25T11:21:55.972-07:00What would you do with $1,000,000...how about buying a baseball card?<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Baseball card collecting has now reached the ultimate in absolute stupidity.

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">One card, one simple piece of cardboard inserted into a pack of baseball cards, signed by a player, and its the only one, the only one of that card.
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Now, there is more than one of this card, but what makes this card unique is...are you ready...it has a "red" border, and it's a signed card...that's it...there are more of that basic card around, they just don't have that 1/1 "red" border.
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">That card is now being bid on...on eBay...the current price...
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"> $999,999

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Yep, that's right...$999.999...for a baseball card...of a player who has pitched in exactly 3 big league games...Steven Strasburg.

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">The person, and persons who are bidding for this card...if indeed they intend to pay that much, cannot be of sound mind...no matter what they tell you.
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Do they think they are going to be able to sell the card for a profit...they paid a million dollars for the card!

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"> The only sane person involved here is the fortunate person who opened up that pack of cards with the Strasburg card inside. He's going to collect a pile of money for a simple few dollars...living the American dream.

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">I just don't get it...why...why on earth would you pay one million dollars for a piece of cardboard...it's not even a year old...it's just simply stupid...idiotic, and the reason that collecting baseball cards is now completely out of hand.

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Forget that for a million dollars you could buy a 1952 Mickey Mantle, a 1954 Hank Aaron, a 1954 Al Kaline, a 1963 Pete Rose, a 1968 Nolan Ryan...and still have $900,000 left, but if you have a million dollars just laying around, then why don't you give that money to charity, to a children"s hospital, to the Veteran's of our country who need medical cars, or to take care of their families.
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Baseball cards are supposed to be made for the enjoyment of young kids, and baseball fans who enjoy putting together card sets, who enjoy collecting card of their favorite players...by trading cards with each other..."hey, what do you want for that Steven Strasburg, I've got a Jason Heyward RC, a Albert Pujols RC, a Tim Lincecum RC, and a Ubaldo Jimenez RC, and oh, yeah, here's a Ken Griffey, JR RC...how about trading?
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">"Ok, sure, just add $999,000 and it's a done deal."
